AROUND THE COUNTRY

AROUND THE COUNTRY KANSAS CITY, MO. Independence Police Officer Cody Allen was shot and killed by a suspect while assisting a civil process server who had been shot. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - On Thursday Feb. 29th, the Independence Police Department lost one of its own. While responding to assist in the shooting of a civil process server, Officer. Cody Allen was fatally shot by a suspect at a home in the 1100 block of North Elsea Smith Road. The Independence Police Department and Jackson Co. Circuit Court have confirmed that one officer and one process server are dead while one is in custody. “He is a hero, and unfortunately he lost his life while serving this community,” IPD chief Adam Dustman said. “He did exactly what the men and women of law enforcement are called to do day-in and day-out, and I could not be more proud of him and his service to his community.” Allen was a two-time member of the Independence Police Department. He began his law enforcement career with the Grandview Police Department before joining the police force in Independence. He then took a job in the private sector to try something different, but came back to the Independence Police Department nearly two years ago. “He missed it,” Dustman said. “But that’s not lost on me (that he re-joined IPD.) I could not be more proud.” Dustman said he remembered Allen as always having a smile on his face and being able to diffuse things at a moment’s notice. “One of a kind,” Dustman added about Allen. “A human being among human beings.” The Grandview Police Department shared similar sentiments. “Our hearts are heavy at the Grandview Police Department and our condolences go out to all the family, friends and co-workers reeling from the effects of today’s tragedy in Independence,” Grandview police chief Charles Iseman said. “Officer Cody Allen worked with us OFFICER CODY ALLEN in Grandview for nearly six years before transferring to Independence. He was loved and respected by all those who worked with him. His death is a huge loss to the law enforcement community.” Allen was 35 years old, and he leaves behind a wife, two small children and his parents. 28 The Blues - April ‘24 Experience the only first responder owned and operated THEME studio in the Country! 10 years strong!
