AROUND THE COUNTRYSAINT PAUL, MN.Police Officer Felicia Reilly succumbed to injuries she received after responding toa 911 hangup call at a residence in Saint Paul on March 24, 2010.Police Officer Felicia Reillysuccumbed to injuries she receivedafter responding to a 911hangup call at a residence in the1600 block of Birmingham Streetin Saint Paul on March 24, 2010.When Officer Reilly arrived atthe home, she was invited insideand was notified that theelderly couple's son was threateningthem. As Officer Reillyapproached the subject, hebegan to attack her. She usedher taser to subdue him, but hekept swinging and punching herin the face. Despite being tased,the man punched her again, andshe fell to the floor where theman proceeded to kick her inthe head multiple times. OfficerReilly stood up and attempted tosubdue the subject, chasing himoutside the home.After responding officershelped Officer Reilly restrain thesubject, she was transportedto the hospital for her injurieswhere she was diagnosed withtraumatic brain injury. Throughoutthe years she suffered frompermanent double vision, chronicmigraine headaches, light sensitivity,nausea, and a decreasein cognitive functioning, forcingher to retire from the department.She passed away on March1, 2025, from her injuries.The subject was found guiltyof assault and sentenced to 81/2 years in prison in 2015. He isunable to be charged with hermurder due to the Double JeopardyClause in the Fifth Amendmentof the United States Constitution.Officer Reilly had served withOFFICER FELICIA REILLYthe Saint Paul Police Departmentfor 17 years.
