REMEMBERING THOSE WE’VE LOST Lost in the Line of Duty Senior Patrolman Sherman Otto Benys, Jr. Kingsville Police Department, Texas End of Watch Thursday, November 4, 2021 Age 58 Tour 20 Years Badge # 81 Senior Patrolman Sherman Benys succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained three days earlier while responding to a domestic dispute on the 300 block of South Wanda in Kingsville. When Patrolman Benys and another officer arrived at the scene, the male subject opened fire on them, striking Patrolman Benys and prompting the two officers to return fire. The subject fled the scene, was apprehended by officers, and taken into custody. Police Officer Paramhans Desai Henry County Police Department, Georgia End of Watch Monday, November 8, 2021 Age 38 Tour N/A Badge # 7951 Police Officer Paramhans Desai succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained at about 6:00 pm on November 4th, 2021, while responding to a domestic violence call near the intersection of Keys Ferry Road and Floresta Drive in McDonough. Officer Desai was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he remained on life support until succumbing to his wounds on November 8th, 2021. He continued to serve his community after his passing by having multiple organs donated. The subject who shot Officer Desai fled the area and remained at large for five days. He committed suicide after barricading himself inside of a home in Clayton County as officers attempted to take him into custody. Deputy Sheriff Lena Nicole Marshall Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia End of Watch Monday, November 8, 2021 Age 49 Tour 10 Years Badge # 4163 Deputy Sheriff Lena Marshall succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained three days earlier while responding to a domestic disturbance call at 6416 Highway 124 in Hoschton. As she and another deputy contacted someone in the home, a woman opened fire on them, wounding Deputy Marshall. Deputy Marshall’s partner returned fire and killed the woman. Deputy Marshall was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her wounds. Deputy Marshall had served with Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for almost two years and had previously served with the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, Habersham Sheriff’s Office, Winder Police Department, and the Helen Police Department. She is survived by her two daughters, son, two sisters, and two brothers. Sergeant Dominic Guida Bunnell Police Department, Florida End of Watch Tuesday, November 9, 2021 Age 43 Tour 19 Years Badge # 5111 Sergeant Dominic Guida suffered a fatal heart attack while participating in a multi-agency field force training exercise at the Relay Fire Tower in Bunnell. He was participating in the training while wearing a gas mask when he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sergeant Guida had served with the Bunnell Police Department for 19 years. He is survived by his two sisters, brother, nieces, and nephews. Officer Desai had previously served with the DeKalb County Police Department and the Georgia Department of Corrections.
