GUEST COMENTARYMichael BarronHell on EarthWe almost lost one of our own.The apocalyptic images of LAare reminiscent of the wildfiresthat consumed the Island of Maui.Complete devastation of entirecommunities. Neighborhoodsreduced to lot after lot of smolderingash and burnt-out hulks ofcars. If you ever wondered whata city would look like after anAtomic attack, this is it. Nothingleft but scorched earth with ahandful of houses that somehowescaped unharmed. All the news wants to talkabout are all the celebrities thatlost their homes. Regardless ofwho you are, losing your homeis undeniably one of the worstmoments of your life. But for themost part, celebrities that havemillions sitting in bank accountscan rebuild anywhere they want. Most have second and third housesthey can just relocate too. Butwhat about the non-celebrities?Believe it or not, insurance companiesjust recently canceled firecoverage in California because ofall the recent wildfires, leavingmany of these residents with zerocoverage. These average everydaycitizens not only lost everything, but they also still owe huge mortgageson what is now just smolderingash. This tragedy hit home when oneof our own editors lived in theepicenter of the fires in the Palisades. With only the clothes onher back, she managed to escapein the middle of the night only toabandon her SUV and walk a coupleof miles through a fire-stormof flaming embers. Her car waseventually bulldozed out of thestreet to make way for firetrucks. Her condo was destroyed in thefire. The law firm she worked at,located only a few blocks away ina bank building, was also destroyed. With no home, no car andno place to go, she managed toUber her way to LAX, buy a planeticket to Houston to stay with hermom until she figures out what’snext.Wearing a “I love LA” sweatshirt,I found her sitting on the curbat IAH with a blank stare on herface. She got in the car and startedcrying. I parked at the Marriottand listened to her recount herhorrible trip through what shedescribed as “Hell on Earth.”Her life as she knew it, is nomore. She has nothing left toreturn to and no money to rebuildeven if she wanted to. But she isalive, she has family, and for thatshe is thankful. But what about the thousands ofothers just like JJ that now havenothing. Many with young childrenand nothing left but the clothes ontheir backs. Where are they today?I suppose they are staying withfriends or relatives, just trying tofigure out what their next stepsare. And what about all the firstresponders? They too lost theirhomes. Many have been workingnon-stop since the fires brokeout and haven’t even had time tostop and think about their futures.Where are they going to live?I’m sure Mayor Bass and GovernorNewsom aren’t worried abouttheir homes. But they should beworried about their jobs. Bothfailed the citizens of Californiaand should both resign immediately.Their Woke agenda andclimate polices aren’t working.Taxpayers expect their governmentto at least have water in firehydrants in front of their houseand when there isn’t, someoneneeds to lose their jobs. Bass andNewsom are complete idiots, andboth need to go.So, I say to all the mainstreammedia out there, how about focusingon everyday working folksand stop worrying about rich asscelebrities. They will be just fine.Read JJ’s story on Page 102.16 The BLUES - FEBRUARY ‘25
