Officers confronteda woman who reportedlywas attempting to cash afraudulent check. Police said thesuspect took off in a black 2023Jeep Wrangler, leading officerssouthbound on Highway 6.Under agency policy, CollegeStation Police Department(CSPD) officers ended theirpursuit after the suspect exitedHighway 6 south at the FM 2154ramp, then began driving southSERGEANT MARK BUTLERin the northbound lanes of Highway6, KBTX reports.Texas DPS Troopers continuedto follow the vehicle as it enteredGrimes County.At 3:30 p.m., Sergeant Butler,who was traveling northbound,maneuvered his marked patrolvehicle and collided with thesuspect, preventing her fromhitting other motorists on thehighway. He was transported toCHI St. Joseph Hospital – GrimesHospital, where he succumbedto his injuries.The suspect was killed at thescene.Sergeant Butler was a UnitedStates Army veteran and hadserved with the Navasota PoliceDepartment for almost fouryears.Several witnesses to the incidenttold KBTX how Sgt.
