OFFICER INBULLET-RESISTANT VESTJoanna Putman, Police1ROCHESTER, N.Y.— The EastRochester Police Departmenthas released body worn camerafootage showing the incidentthat led to an officer and asuspect being injured by gunfire,WHAM reported.Raymond Noel, 52, was sentencedon Jan. 15 to 35 yearsto life in prison for the Jan. 14,2024, shooting of East RochesterPolice Officer Brad Steve, accordingto the report.The incident began whenofficers Steve and Walsh hadresponded to a 911 call at anapartment when they encounteredNoel in the driveway, accordingto the report. The videoshows Noel refusing commandsto remove his hands from hispockets and attempting to entera home.When Steve ordered Noelto come back outside, gunfireerupted. Steve shot Noel in theupper torso, while Noel returnedfire, hitting Steve in his bulletproofvest.“I’m hit…I don’t know if it’s inmy vest,” Steve can be heardsaying into his radio.Both Steve and Noel sustainednon-life-threatening injuries.“I’m too old for this shit,” Stevecan be heard saying as he walksaway from the incident scene.“I commend [the officers] fortheir courage and professionalismunder extraordinarily dangerouscircumstances,” EastRochester Police Chief MichaelBrandenburg said in a statement.“It’s not anything that anybodyever wants to deal with…" Stevesaid. “At the end of the day,there’s really no good outcomein this.”Noel’s sentencing follows ajury conviction on charges includingattempted aggravatedmurder, attempted aggravatedassault on a police officer andtwo counts of criminal possessionof a weapon.FBI RELEASES INVESTIGA-TIVE UPDATE IN BOURBONSTREET ATTACKNEW ORLEANS – The FBI,along with our partners, continueto work around the clockto determine what motivatedShamsud-Din Jabbar to drive histruck into a crowd of people onBourbon Street. While in the city, Jabbarlooked at an apartment for renton Orleans Street. Just days afterhis travel he applied to rent theapartment but later told thelandlord he changed his mind.An initial review of his electronicsshows Jabbar conductedmany online searches. They includedhow to access a balconyon Bourbon Street, informationabout Mardi Gras, and he researchedseveral shootings in thecity, as late as mid-November.Just hours before the attack onBourbon Street, he also searchedfor information about the carthat rammed into innocent victimsin a Christmas market inGermany just ten days before.72 The BLUES - FEBRUARY ‘25
