NYPD OFFICERS NOT AL-LOWED TO PURSUE SUSPECTEDTRAFFIC VIOLATORS WHO FLEESTOPS UNDER NEW POLICYBy Thomas Tracy,New York Daily NewsNEW YORK — NYPD officerswill no longer be allowed tochase after vehicles fleeingcar stops under a new department-widepolicy that onlyallows pursuits when a felonycrime or a violent misdemeanoris committed.The new guidelines, effectiveFeb. 1, come amid rampant criticismover the last few years thatthe department routinely engagesin unnecessary police pursuitsthat lead to crashes and injureother motorists and pedestrians.Instead of following fleeingdrivers responsible for trafficviolations, the department willrely on “advanced tools of modern-daypolicing” to track downand apprehend the suspects, PoliceCommissioner Jessica Tischsaid, although she didn’t saywhat kind of tools will be used.Police already utilize varyingtracking techniques, includingthe use of drones and GPS trackersthat can be fired and affixedto a fleeing vehicle.“The NYPD’s enforcementefforts must never put the publicor the police at undue risk,and pursuits for violations andlow-level crimes can be bothpotentially dangerous and unnecessary,”Tisch said Wednesday,claiming that with theseadvanced tools, many pursuitswill be “unnecessary.”COUPLE WITH FAKE FIRETRUCK BUSTED FOR IMPER-SONATING FIREFIGHTERSNEAR PALISADES FIRE IN LOSANGELESLos Angeles authorities said acouple was arrested for impersonatingfirefighters after theyattempted to enter an evacuationzone with a fake firetruck nearthe Palisades Fire area.The Los Angeles County Sheriff'sOffice confirmed to FoxNews Digital that Dustin Nehl,31, and Jennifer Nehl, 44, werearrested for Impersonating aFirefighter and entering an evacuationzone.Officials said an LAPD patrolunit was driving through the PalisadesFire area with fire personneland noticed a fire truck thatdid not appear to be legitimate.The officers reached out todeputies and shared that theindividuals in the phony fire truckattempted to enter an evacuationzone.Upon approaching the truck,officials said deputies noticedthat both suspects were wearingturnout gear.The occupants claimed tobe from the "Roaring River FireDepartment" in Oregon. However,deputies learned that thedepartment was not legitimate,and the truck was purchased atan auction. The fire truck wasimpounded by authorities.Officials said the two occupantswere also wearing CAL-Fire T-shirts under the turnoutgear, and had helmets andradios.The couple admitted to deputiesthat they had entered theevacuation zone.Authorities uncovered thatDustin Nehl has a criminal historyin Oregon, including criminalmischief and arson.They have been charged withfraudulent impersonation of specificfire personnel, unauthorizedactivities with respect to badgesor related matters, and falserepresentation, LA County DistrictAttorney Nathan Hochman said,according to FOX 11.76 The BLUES - FEBRUARY ‘25
