and first responders. As a long-term memberof the Houston community, Alan hasraised hundreds of thousands of dollars forthose who dedicate their lives to protectingothers and for some, made the ultimatesacrifice. When I asked him about his ownlaw enforcement service, he shared hehas always felt a calling to give back. Thatpretty much sums up who Alan Helfman is.For the better part of his life, Helfman hasdedicated himself to serving others, earningthe nickname “Mr. Philanthropy.”On most days you’ll find him making dealsat his dealership on Kirby Drive, just off theSouthwest Freeway – River Oaks Chrysler,Dodge, Jeep & Ram. But what you maynot know is that many of those ‘deals’ havenothing to do with cars. The big deals goingon in that second-floor office of thisfull-time salesman and part time cop, arethe deals that will raise hundreds of thousandsof dollars for charities, police andfire departments, schools, parks and hospitalsand long-term care facilities. Truthis, I don’t think there is a person or causethat Alan hasn’t raised money for. It’s inhis blood and DNA to help others and he’sdamn good at it. So, when The BLUES staffgathered in January of 2021 to decide whomight be the recipient of their first everLIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD, AlanHelfman was the first name everyone selected. And here’s how it all got started.94 The BLUES - FEBRUARY ‘25
