Police Sergeant - The Colony Police David Jones Fitzpatrick End of Watch: Monday, June 10, 2019 Age :59 Tour: 34 yrs Badge: 171 Military Veteran Sergeant David Fitzpatrick suffered a fatal heart attack after participating in the department’s wellness program on June 7th, 2019. He collapsed after returning to his office after working out. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away on June 10th, 2019, without having regained consciousness. Sergeant Fitzpatrick was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with The Colony Police Department for over 34 years. He is survived by his wife. Corporal - Misson Police Jose Luis “Speedy” Espericueta, Jr. End of Watch: Thursday., June 20, 2019 Age :44 Tour: 18 yrs. Badge: 350 Corporal Jose Espericueta was shot and killed as he and other officers attempted to apprehend a subject who had threatened family members. A woman flagged down officers in the area of Stewart Road and Business Highway 83 and told them that her son had just shot at her car with a handgun. Corporal Espericueta and other officers responded to the scene and located the subject, who then fled on foot. As the man ran he turned and opened fire, striking Corporal Espericueta multiple times. Other officers returned fire and killed the man. Corporal Espericueta had served with the Mission Police Department for 13 years an had previously served with the San Benito Police Department for five years. He is survived by his wife and two children. Deputy Sheriff - Kendall County SO Carlos A, Ramirez End of Watch: Saturday., February 2, 2019 Age :32 Tour: 3 yrs. Badge: Unknown Deputy Sheriff Carlos Ramirez was struck and killed by a vehicle while he and another deputy were conducting a traffic stop on I-10 near mile marker 533 at 7:30 am. Another vehicle struck Deputy Ramirez and the other deputy before striking the vehicle that had been stopped. Deputy Ramirez succumbed to his injuries while the other deputy was seriously injured. Deputy Ramirez was a U.S. Army Reserve veteran and had served with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office for three years. He is survived by his wife and two young children. Deputy - Harris County SO Omar Diaz End of Watch: Saturday, July 6, 2019 Age :39 Tour: 10 yrs Badge: Not Available Deputy Sheriff Omar Diaz died after collapsing at the scene of a stabbing call in the 7500 block of Stone Pine Lane. He and other deputies had responded to the scene where a woman had been stabbed several times. Deputy Diaz was securing the crime scene with police line tape when he collapsed. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away a short time later. Deputy Diaz had served with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for 10 years. He is survived by his wife and young daughter. Deputy Sheriff - Kinney County SO Jose Luis Blancarte End of Watch: Sunday, March 24, 2019 Age :47 Tour: 20 yrs. Badge: 4 Deputy Sheriff Jose Blancarte suffered a fatal heart attack at the scene of a vehicle fire on Highway 90 four miles west of Brackettville. He began directing traffic after assisting at the fire scene. A short time later he began feeling ill and requested EMS to his location. Medics began to perform CPR when he became unresponsive while being transported to a local hospital. He passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital. Deputy Blancarte had served with the Kinney County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, four children, mother, and six siblings. Trooper - Texas DPS Moises Sanchez End of Watch: Saturday, August 24, 2019 Age :49 Tour: 4 yrs. Badge: Not Available Trooper Moises Sanchez succumbed to complications of gunshot wounds sustained on April 6th, 2019, in McAllen, Texas. He had responded to a hit-and-run vehicle crash at the intersection of N 10th Street and W Freddy Gonzalez Drive. He located the suspect approximately one block away, in the 1500 block of South Maltese Street, and attempted to take him into custody. The subject shot him in the shoulder and head during the arrest. Trooper Sanchez was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. He succumbed to complications of his wounds on August 24th, 2019, following surgery. The man was arrested following a manhunt. He was charged with capital murder after Trooper Sanchez passed away.
