GUEST COMENTARY more to say Rex Evans “Honorable” people don’t throw stones. I have not, nor will I ever, walk on water. If we are to be truthful, this applies to all of us including those who throw stones in glass houses. For example, a certain person who has ruthlessly and with great malice attacked Jimmy Fullen, a candidate running for Galveston County Sheriff. Look folks, politics is now more than ever, a God awful, dirty business. People literally eat their own (Figuratively speaking) within their Political Party. Let alone how badly they attack someone from another Party. But going after a Candidate is one thing. Going after his family, friends and everyone who supports him, is quite another. And then launch personal attacks against his children. There’s nothing ‘honorable’ about that. Look, Jimmy Fullen is human, and he makes mistakes just like the rest of us. He knew when he put his name on the ballot, that his entire life as well as his family’s life, would be open game for his opponent to attack him in every way possible. I gotta tell you, I’m down for supporting Jimmy because he IS human and has enough humility to admit he’d made mistakes in the past. I have tried to make right of my past transgressions. 26 The Blues - July ‘24 RETIRED POLICE CHIEF, REX EVANS I’ve done everything I can to make my community, county and state a safer, more peaceful place for people to live, work and raise a family. I can get behind that kind of person. What I cannot accept, is a person who ruthlessly attacks another when the very stones they are throwing, are of the same big rock of their own past. Tread lightly when casting upon others, for we all have paths we wish we never taken or roads we never traveled. Finally, to try and weaponize the State Board of Law Enforcement arguably one of the most prestigious and certainly one of the most visible State Boards in Texas, for one’s own political agenda is sickening to me. It reeks and circles back to what I mentioned earlier…Some will in fact, eat their very own for their own personal agenda. If even that agenda is in and of itself born out of misconduct. I haven’t met too many folks without a “past.” I just haven’t. And those whom I have met who didn’t, have a questionable past, quite frankly I never trusted them because what the hell have they ever stood for, done or not done and above all…what have they ever done for anyone else other than themselves? Thus far, most folks in Galveston County, TCOLE and others seemed to feel the same way. We all have lived our lives, as best we can. When we’ve stumbled, we’ve stumbled. We didn’t just lay there. We got back up and we did better from that point on. Jimmy Fullen is no different. He’s stumbled in his life. Good. That means he’s a better man and will make a better Sheriff because of these life lessons. And as Sheriff, he’ll better understand how to lead the GCSO through difficult times as we will surely face in the future.
