AROUND THE COUNTRYHINDS COUNTY, MS.Deputy Martin Shields was shot and killed while responding to a domesticcall in Terry Mississippi.HINDS COUNTY, MS. —A HindsCounty deputy was shot andkilled while responding to a domesticdisturbance at a home inTerry, Mississippi, WLBT reported.Deputy Martin Shields Jr., 37,was fatally shot upon arrivingat the scene on Feb. 23, accordingto the Hinds County Sheriff’sOffice.Shields had been with thedepartment for nine months butwas a law enforcement veteran,having served with the JacksonPolice Department and RidgelandPolice Department, SheriffTyree Jones said.Authorities also reported thatan unidentified man, believed tobe connected to the domesticcall, was found dead inside thehome, according to the report.Sheriff Tyree Jones stated thatDEPUTY MARTIN SHIELDSthe suspect was no longer consideredan active threat, and aBOLO alert for him had beencanceled.The Mississippi Bureau of Investigationis leading the investigation.In a statement, Jones reflectedon his final encounter withShields just minutes before theshooting.“Deputy Shields died a hero. Hedied while responding to a callfor service to assist someone inneed.
