AROUND THE COUNTRYWALTON CNTY, FL.Deputy Sheriff Will May was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance atthe Dollar General Market at 10738 US-90 in Defuniak Springs.A Florida deputy was killed ina "violent gunfight" at a DollarGeneral store on Wednesday,managing to fire back at the suspecteven after he was wounded,according to Walton CountySheriff Mike Adkinson.Walton County Deputy WilliamMay was not supposed to beworking on Wednesday afternoon,yet he decided to volunteerfor a shift to "provide overtimeand assistance," accordingto Adkinson."Will fought the entire time,from returning fire on the sceneto fighting for his own life," Adkinsonsaid.May was wearing a ballisticvest during the shootout, whichstopped multiple rounds from injuringhim, but one "went underneaththe vest, which ultimatelycaused his death," Adkinson said.The shooting unfolded at approximately2 p.m. on Wednesday,when deputies received acall from a Dollar General storein Mossy Head, Florida, statingthere was an individual "causinga disturbance and needed tobe trespassed from the scene,"Adkinson said.May responded to the call.
