AROUND THE COUNTRYWOOD CNTY, TX.Deputy Sheriff Melissa Pollard was killed when her patrol car collidedwith the back of a semi-truck at the intersection of FM 14 and StateHighway 37-S, between Quitman and Winnsboro Texas.WOOD COUNTY, TX. (KLTV)- A day after Wood CountySheriff’s Office Deputy MelissaPollard died following awreck at the intersection ofFM 14 and Highway 37, a tributeto her memory was placedin front of the Wood CountyJustice Center.Representatives from severallaw enforcement agenciesstopped at the Justice Centerto offer condolences.Law enforcement vehiclesfrom the surrounding areawere parked in the lot, includingfrom Greenville andone from Jefferson. JeffersonPolice Chief Florentino Perezis president of the nonprofitEast Texas 100 Club, whichprovides financial support tofamily members of law enforcementofficers killed orinjured in the line of duty.“Usually, it’s all of a sudden.So, families immediatecalls and things like that isnot something that familiesshould be concerned about,”Perez said.He said he was there to meetwith Wood County SheriffKelly Cole.“The organization we’ve establishedand assisted a coupleof line of duty deaths, andit’s definitely necessary for ourarea,” Perez said.The chief says the club alsoaids other first respondersfamilies.“You don’t have to be amember of the organization toreceive a benefit,” Perez said.DPS Troopers also met withCole.The DPS released a preliminaryfatal crash report todaystating Deputy Melissa PollardDEPUTY MELISSA POLLARDrear ended an 18-wheelerwhich had slowed to makea left turn. Pollard was pronouncedat 11:22 a.m.A DPS district crash teamis investigating the wreck.
