AROUND THE COUNTRYLAMESA, TX.Dawson County Deputy Jessie Perez was killed by debrisfrom a passing vehicle while on a traffic stop.By Brandon SolizLAMESA, TX (KCBD) - TexasDPS troopers and the DawsonCounty Sheriff’s Departmentresponded to the scene of a reportedcrash that killed DawsonCounty Sheriff’s deputy JessiePerez.The line-of-duty death happenednear W. US 180 and N Ave.V in Lamesa when debris froma passing commercial vehiclestruck Perez, who was conductinga traffic stop at the time.Steven Blanco with DPS saysthe community needs to beaware when on roadways forofficers making a stop.“Traffic stops are one of themost dangerous things an officercan do in law enforcement,”Blanco said. “Whether that’swith the sheriff’s office, policedepartment, state trooper -that’s why we have move overlaws.”DPS says Perez was 42 yearsold and served with the sheriff’soffice for eight months. Deputy Perez succumbedto his injuries at 1:44 p.m.Deputy Perez, 42, HAD servedwith the Dawson County Sheriff’sOffice for 8 months.The Texas Highway Patrol isinvestigating this crash; no additionalinformation is availablenow.Our thoughts and prayers arewith the Dawson County Sheriff’sOffice and the family ofDeputy Perez.
