HONORING OUR DEPUTY SHERIFF LEX ALLEN LOVE WISE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, TEXAS END OF WATCH WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2024 AGE: 26 TOUR: 8 YEARS BADGE: 6165 Deputy Sheriff Lex Love was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Country Road 4421. While en route to a vehicle collision call at 8:20 p.m., Deputy Love’s cruiser struck a concrete barrier in a construction zone. He was transferred to Medical City Decatur, where he succumbed to his injuries. Deputy Love had served with the Wise County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy for six months. He had previously served with the Decatur Police Department and the Wise County Sheriff’s Department as a jailer. He was awarded the Decatur Police Department’s Newcomer of the Year in 2024 and Wise County Sheriff’s Office Jailer of the Year in 2019. FALLEN HEROES PARK RANGER KEVIN MELVIN GROSSHEIM NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, U.S. GOVERNMENT END OF WATCH SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2024 AGE: 55 TOUR: 31 YEARS BADGE: N/A Park Ranger Kevin Grossheim drowned when his National Park Service boat capsized near Birch Cove Island on Namakan Lake. After receiving a distress call, Ranger Grossheim secured a family of three safely aboard his vessel. Amid rough waters and high winds, his boat overturned. The three family members were able to reach land safely, but Ranger Grossheim went missing. His body was recovered after a three-hour search. Ranger Grossheim had served with the United States Department of the Interior - National Park Service for 31 years and was assigned to the Voyageurs National Park for almost 20 years.
