AROUND THE COUNTRY NORFOLK, VA. Detective Mo Joseph died as the result of cancer that he developed following his volunteer assignment with the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center. Detective Mo Joseph died as the result of cancer that he developed following his volunteer assignment with the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. Forty law enforcement officers from the Norfolk Police Department traveled to New York City on their personal vacation time without pay to volunteer their assistance and support to the on-site emergency agencies. Detective Joseph had served with the Norfolk Police Department for 26 years. He is survived by his wife, three sons, a daughter, and grandchildren. AROUND THE COUNTRY NEW YORK, NY. Detective Clay Word died as the result of cancer that he developed following his volunteer assignment with the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center. Detective Clay Word died as the result of cancer that he developed following his assignment to the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. Detective Word had served with the New York City Police Department for 20 years and later served with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. Det. Word and his family moved to Florida, where first Clay joined the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office as a School Resource Officer. The Word family eventually relocated to the west side of Florida, where Detective Word continued with his passion to serve and protect and became a School Guardian in Manatee County. There are only 55 School Guardians in Manatee County and about half are retired former members of the NYPD.
