FROM THE EDITOR-AT-LARGE

FROM THE EDITOR-AT-LARGE Republican. Democrat. When a life is on the line, does it really matter? So, two back-to-back hurricanes hit the Great State of Florida last month. One, trekked northeast wreaking complete havoc and devastation across the great states of Tennessee and North Carolina. The death toll continues to rise each day, as searchers find bodies buried underneath the mud and debris. Many have complained that the Federal Government isn’t doing enough. Mostly the Republicans saying Biden and Harris aren’t there for the people who need them the most. Both sides have exchanged words and vow to help. But people are hurting, helpless, scared and alone, it doesn’t matter to First Responders whether they’re a Republican or Democrat. They’ve lost everything and they just need someone to get them the help they need. And the first responders sure the hell didn’t care what the victim’s political affiliation was. No sir. Every First Responder from the Emergency Telecommunicators to the Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, Medics, Hospital ER Staff and Linemen, did everything they could to save as many people as possible. I can honestly say in my lifetime, I have never seen such disgusting filth in an election as I have this year. Not just the National Elections, but the local and state races as well. It’s been nothing but trash talking each other with very little solutions offered to solve the many problems Americans face today. I just cannot believe this is really what our Country has come to, When people are hurting, suffering and in peril, politicians should just either help or sit down and shut up. Doctors have an oath that says, “DO NO HARM.” Maybe politicians should adopt their oath. Tying up funds for emergency relief and delaying assistance to reinforce ones political is unacceptable. For all the First Responders and private citizens who answered the calls for help, especially those who volunteered to respond with absolutely no expectation of pay or reimbursement, every one of you are the absolute embodiment of the word “HERO”. You rose to the occasion, politics be damned. You helped everyone you met who was in peril or pain, no matter who or what they were. I for one, believe Washington D.C., New York City and L.A. and any other such politically driven community, should take note of what America’s citizens will do for each other in a crisis. It isn’t about politics, it’s about survival. In a crisis, we don’t need looting and panic in the streets, we need people to be decent human beings and do the right thing. And being a decent human being isn’t defined by your political or financial status, or whether you’re Christian or Jewish, or black or white. It’s defined by the desire to help their fellow man and have love in their heart. All First Responders, professional or volunteer, all live by one ideology, save as many people as you can and pray for the ones you can’t. Today, we need to pray for everyone involved in these disasters. 8 The Blues - November ‘24
