AROUND THE COUNTRYSAN DIEGO, CA.Police Officer Lauren Craven was struck and killed while helping at the scene of avehicle collision on Interstate 8 near Waring Road.Joanna Putman, Police1SAN DIEGO — A La Mesa PoliceDepartment officer died afterbeing struck by a car while respondingto another crash, CBS8 reported.The Oct. 20 incident beganwhen a vehicle traveling eastboundon I-8 lost control, overturnedand came to rest in thefreeway lanes, according to thereport. The disabled vehicle wasthen struck by another car.La Mesa Police Officer LaurenCraven, 25, encountered thecrash while returning to the cityfrom the San Diego Central Jail.According to police, she stoppedto assist with the accident andbegan taking a report when shewas struck by a separate oncomingvehicle.Craven and the driver involvedin the initial rollover were bothpronounced dead at the scene,according to CHP Captain ReggieWilliams.Craven had been with the LaMesa Police Department sinceFebruary 2024 and was assignedto the Patrol Division. In a statement,the department expressedits gratitude for the support ofregional law enforcement andasked the community to keepCraven’s family and colleagues intheir thoughts.La Mesa Lt.
