AROUND THE COUNTRYJACKSON CNTY, MS.Deputy Sheriff Joshua Brashears was killed in a single-vehicle crashon Highway 15 when his patrol car collided with horses.STONE COUNTY, MS. (WLOX/Gray News) - A Mississippi deputydied from his injuries afterhis cruiser collided with horsesearly Friday morning, accordingto authorities.The Jackson County Sheriff’sDepartment identified the deputyas Joshua Brashears, 45. He hadbeen part of the Patrol Divisionsince joining the department in2023.Officials say Brashears wasdriving home at 5:25 a.m. Fridayon Highway 15 when he cameupon several horses in the roadwayand hit them. The deputywas taken to Biloxi Memorialfollowing the wreck, but he laterdied from his injuries.Jackson County Sheriff JohnLedbetter said it was a tragicday for the department.“This is definitely an unexpectedand tragic event for thecommunity and for the JacksonCounty Sheriff’s Office andespecially the family of DeputyBrashears,” Ledbetter said. “Ourcondolences, our thoughts andour prayers go out from thesheriff’s office to their family.”The sheriff’s department alsoreleased the following statementabout the incident:Deputy Brashears faithfullyserved the residents of JacksonCounty since joining the Sheriff’sOffice in 2023.
