La Porte Police Department to upgrade body and dash cameras with improved technology THE END-TO-END DRONE SOLUTION FOR PUBLIC SAFETY. LA PORTE, TX (August 23, 2021) – The La Porte City Council recently approved a contract for the La Porte Police Department to partner with law enforcement technology provider, Utility, Inc., to equip 80 La Porte officers with its patented BodyWorn camera technology as well as 49 in-car video systems. The technology provides unique, automated capabilities and tools that will support an increase in transparency and accountability between the La Porte Police Department and the community. “This project is going to improve our ability to ensure body camera activation and provide a better means to keep the camera secured to our officers’ uniforms. This new tool will also enhance the safety of our officers in the field while providing transparency and accountability.” Assistant Chief Ditrich – Patrol Bureau The five-year contract with Pictured above: Officers Emily Harness and Yesenia Rodriguez display the uniform application of the BodyWorn Camera Utility, Inc. includes outfitting officers with BodyWorn cameras, which are embedded in the officers’ uniforms to prevent them from detaching. The camera technology utilizes artificial intelligence to create situational awareness and offers features like a two-minute buffer, which allows for capture of two minutes of video prior to the camera being activated, along with automatic, policy-based recording functionalities designed to remove the burden from the officers to turn on the cameras. Over the last few weeks LPPD has worked closely with Body- Worn to have uniforms altered, equipment installed, and training provided to all applicable staff. The new system is now fully in use by all uniformed LPPD officers. For more information regarding the BodyWorn technology, please contact the LPPD at 281- 471-2141 and follow them on Facebook at @LaPortePoliceDepartment.
