READERS SPEAK OUT

READERS SPEAK OUT letters from you BROTHERS & SISTERS IN BLUE I am one of those people whose wheels are always turning, full of nervous energy, can’t sit still, got to be doing something. I am also very impulsive; I sit around thinking of a project or something that is bothering me for months. Then, one day I wake up and decide to act on the problem. That is the case with what I am about to tell you. Those of us either currently, or formally, who are members of the Law Enforcement Community call each other our brothers and sisters. I know that we really feel that way in our hearts. I do call some of my old buddies from time to time to check on them, especially now that I am retired. We always end up saying “you know we really need to get together, seems like we only see each other at someone’s funeral”. I recently read there are more than 800,000 sworn law enforcement officers in the United States. Around 137,000 are Federal L.E. Officers, the rest work for State and local agencies. Woman now make up 13.3 % of the total number. The point is as I once heard an Officer tell a biker he had stopped “I belong to the biggest club in town”. After the biker had made reference to his affiliation, with a large biker club. The color of your skin, how you vote, who you support, how large or small your department is, does not matter to me. You are my brothers and sisters. My heart pumps blue blood and my eyes still light up, the alert buttons still get pushed and the adrenaline still sends sharp pain up my back when I see overheads flashing and hear sirens blasting. Our Country is changing or should I say it has changed. Road rage, jugging, car jackings in broad daylight. Are you kidding me? I am scared 16 The BLUES for my wife to go grocery shopping alone, or anywhere alone for that matter. Recently, I pulled up at a red light and as I pulled up beside the vehicle to my left, I noticed the driver obviously had something to ask me. Maybe, like directions or something, I rolled my window down and I instantly realized I had apparently somehow pissed this asshole off, as he said to me, “do you want to die motherfucker”? I am thinking you are about a dumb SOB as I now sat with my 45ACP in hand held below the window line so he could not see it, hoping his hands remained in sight while he continued to spit venom in my direction. Fortunately, the light changed and we both went our separate ways. This incident along with PR bonds for terds already out on bond for assaults, robbery, murder and the like, who continue to pray on the innocent, really pisses me off. To be honest with you, I’ve had enough. It really bothers me that the leaders of our country spend most, or all of their time making sure they get rich while in office instead of doing for the people as they were elected to do. Never, have we seen such boldness and corruption in our nation’s Capital. I pray for the whistle blowers with the courage to come forward with information about the illegal activities of persons who the voters trusted to be honest and truthful and loyal to our country. With what we are seeing, nothing would surprise me, not even murder. To those of you still busting your ass, putting your life on the line everyday for the rest of us, thank you, and may God watch over you, and God Bless America! Detective Art Woolery, RET HCSO, Jersey Village PD A HERO OUT OF THE DARKNESS On Saturday, August 19 at approximately 2am, I found myself in a dangerous situation that was absolutely going to cause me serious injury or possibly death. I would like to tell you, my story. On Friday, I started work at 11:30 am and didn’t get off until after midnight. As I was making my way home about 1:30 am when I rolled up on a fatality accident and troopers had the road closed. Now I’m new to Florida and really didn’t know another way home. However,
