AROUND THE COUNTRY yrs. NIXON, NV. Tribal Officer Anthony Francone was struck and killed by a vehicle as he attempted to deploy stop sticks during a chase in Nevada. NIXON, Nev. — A Pyramid Lake Tribal Police officer was killed while trying to stop a fleeing suspect, the Storey County Sheriff’s Office said. On Friday, Aug. 25, Officer Anthony Francone attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle by deploying spike sticks, 2News reports. That’s when the suspect intentionally hit Francone with his vehicle, police said. The suspect was shot and killed by police, the FBI told 2News. Before he became an officer with the Pyramid Lake Tribal Police, Francone was a deputy with the Storey County Sheriff’s Office. For more than 10 years, Francone dedicated his service to the community of Storey County, holding positions as both deputy and corporal. Throughout this period, Francone gained acknowledgment and accolades due to his courageous acts, his commitment to safeguarding the public and his camaraderie with fellow law enforcement personnel, the sheriff’s office said. “While with the Storey County Sheriff’s Office, Anthony was the No. 1 traffic enforcement officer. Anthony was also the agency’s primary RADAR instructor, lead accident investigator and field training officer. Anthony’s humor was definitely one of his greatest qualities and he always had a way of making people laugh regardless of the situation,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. Francone was a former Storey County Sheriff’s deputy, that agency posted on Twitter. “Anthony Francone served the residents of Storey County for over a decade in the rank of Deputy and Corporal. During that time Anthony was recognized and awarded for his bravery, his duty to protect the public, and his fellow officers,” the Storey OFFICER ANTHONY FRANCONE County Sheriff’s Office posted. “Anthony’s humor was definitely one of his greatest qualities and he always had a way of making people laugh regardless of the situation.” James Phoenix, chairman of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, posted that the investigation is still ongoing.
